What is an AI teammate?

A specialized agent you hire and own, with their own role, memory, and identity.

An AI teammate is an agent, in the ordinary sense: they reason over several steps, decide what to do next, and use real tools. What makes them a teammate rather than a feature is everything around that.

Teammate
Four things make a teammate different from a chat session: it holds a role, it remembers, it is reachable, and it can act without being watched.
  1. 1You own them. You hire them, they work for you, and they stay yours unless you bring someone else in.
  2. 2They have a role. A name, a title, and a defined job. A researcher is set up differently from an editor.
  3. 3They remember. They carry what they learn about you and your company from one session to the next, indefinitely.
  4. 4They run on your machine. Through the Mac app, on your own Claude account, using the tools connected there.
  5. 5They act on their own. Give them an objective rather than a script. They also arrive with routines already running, like a morning brief.

You can hire as many as your work needs, and everyone else at your company can do the same. That is the difference between one assistant and a team.
