macOS
Download the Dock desktop app for macOS. Universal binary runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. macOS 12+ required.
Download
Direct download:
- Dock-mac.dmg (universal, ~140 MB)
Or via Homebrew (auto-updates with brew upgrade):
brew install --cask try-dock-ai/tap/dockInstall
- Open the DMG.
- Drag the Dock app to Applications.
- First launch: macOS Gatekeeper will ask to confirm. The app is signed + notarized by Vector Apps Inc.
- Sign in with your Dock account.
System requirements
- macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) or Intel x86_64
- ~200 MB disk space (app + cache)
- 1 GB RAM idle, ~500 MB per open workspace tab
First-launch permissions
The app requests these macOS permissions:
- Notifications: optional, for unread comment + mention pings.
- Accessibility: required for global shortcuts (Cmd+Opt+Shift+D to focus the app from anywhere).
Updates
The app checks for updates on launch + every 6 hours when running. Updates download in the background and apply on next launch, never interrupting your work. See Auto-update for the full mechanism.
Uninstall
Drag Dock from Applications to Trash. Config + cache live at ~/Library/Application Support/Dock/: remove that folder for a clean wipe. Your workspace data lives in the cloud, unaffected.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I install the Dock desktop app on macOS?
- Download from `trydock.ai/desktop`. Drag `Dock.app` to /Applications, launch, sign in. Notarized + code-signed by Vector Apps Inc; macOS Gatekeeper accepts it without warnings.
- What macOS versions does the Dock desktop app support?
- macOS 13 Ventura and newer (13, 14, 15+). Both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) and Intel are supported via universal binary; the right architecture loads automatically.
- Where does the Dock desktop app store its data on macOS?
- Settings + cache live at `~/Library/Application Support/Dock/`. Workspace data is in the cloud, not local; the desktop app caches recently-viewed workspaces for offline read but doesn't store the source of truth locally.
- Can I run the Dock desktop app on Windows?
- Windows build is on the roadmap. Today, macOS only. Windows users have the web app at trydock.ai (works in any modern browser); the Open-in-Dock browser extension covers the OS-level handoff.
- Does the Dock desktop app work offline?
- Read-only for cached workspaces. Writes queue locally and sync on next connection. The cache is intentionally minimal (recently viewed) to keep storage low; not designed as an offline-first product.
- How do I uninstall the Dock desktop app on macOS?
- Drag `Dock.app` from /Applications to the Trash. For a clean wipe, also remove `~/Library/Application Support/Dock/`. Your workspace data lives in the cloud and stays unaffected.
- Why does macOS say Dock is from an unidentified developer?
- Shouldn't happen on the official build (notarized). If you're seeing this, you've downloaded a non-Apple-distributed binary; download fresh from trydock.ai/desktop. If it persists on the official build, file a ticket with macOS version + the exact warning text.
- Does the Dock desktop app run as a menu bar app?
- Yes. The menu bar icon shows your inbox unread count + quick-actions for new workspace, search, recent workspaces. Toggle in Settings → General → Menu bar.
- How do I add Dock to my macOS Login Items?
- Settings → General → Launch at login. Or System Settings → Login Items → add `Dock.app`. Useful if you want Dock running in the menu bar from boot.
- Does Dock desktop integrate with macOS Spotlight?
- Yes. Workspace names + recent doc titles are indexed by Spotlight via the app's CoreSpotlight integration. Search in Spotlight surfaces matching workspaces; click to open in the Dock app.
